"Christian Erlang"
Find out exactly where the medieval old town wall ran and why the old town is younger than the new town on these tours. The old town is the cradle of Erlangen. The new town is a masterpiece of baroque urban planning – laid out symmetrically, designed representatively and impressively preserved to this day. Where was the fortress, where did the ring wall run? And who the f… was the Memminger?
How the former farming settlement was created, disappeared and rose again. You visit the cradle of Erlangen and walk along the border to the new town.

Medieval chaos vs. symmetry and elegance.
You visit the cradle of Erlangen and cross the border along the wide, even streets into the new town. Facades and straight lines reflect the ideal of reason, harmony and order of the baroque age.

The Tour for the "Footsore"- Curiosities and Interesting Facts around the Palace and Market Square

The area around the Palace and Market Square has some defining baroque architectural treasures and amusing curiosities to offer. A short walk with "aha moments" awaits you. Duration: approx. 60 minutes, wheelchair accessible.
Margravial Residence
The Margrave's Palace of the sixth capital of the Margraviate forms the centrepiece of the planned city. Built as a representative residence of the 18th century.

23 Breweries and Brewing Sites
from Past to Present


Since the 17th century, Erlangen has been inseparably linked to brewing. Cool cellars, artisan brewing craftsmanship and an unparalleled density of breweries have made the city a true beer paradise – known far beyond the city limits. Around 1860, Erlangen surpassed Munich and Kulmbach in beer exports! This tour is a must! Duration: approx. 120 minutes (wheelchair accessible possible)
From the Beginnings to Today
Long before the 17th century, the first innkeeper families were already brewing beer here and the first beer cellars were created – the beginnings of a tradition that reaches into the 21st century.
The industry that shaped Erlangen's cityscape developed in the heart of the old town, the brewing centre. Today, the (probably) world's only brewery that brews inside a hill, stores inside the hill and serves its beer directly from the hill exists in "Erlanka"!

Beer in Erlangen is more than a drink, it's the DNA of the City – it is an expression of community, joy and Franconian way of life.
Local breweries offer unique beer specialities –

Facts Worth Knowing
at the Foot of the Burgberg

The Erlangen beer cellars are unique places – 21km tunnels built into the hillside, shady and sociable. Their cultural highlight is the Bergkirchweih, the oldest and one of the largest beer festivals in Europe, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. But even outside the festival there is much history to explore at the foot of the hill.

The Erlangen Beer Cellars
Carved into natural sandstone, the historic cellars offer cool enjoyment at around 8°C and a rustic atmosphere – an experience you can only find in Erlangen. People go "to the cellar" here. Also open outside the Bergkirchweih from April to September.
The Bergkirchweih
The Bergkirchweih has been held since 1755, what means it's 55 years older than munich Oktoberfest – history and historically significant places explained on the spot. The reason why the Bergkirchweih was worthy of being awarded as a Bavarian "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in 2026.

Packed lunch, music and toasting together in nature. "Open by tradition" - the DNA of the city. A festival for the whole family and pure joie de vivre! There are no titles and no formalities, here you are human and are allowed to be.
